Host Caitlin Sian Richards has been guiding CJSR listeners to auditory vistas for a decade, with Imaginary Landscapes.
The one-hour show on Tuesday evenings (8-9pm) explores and experiments with sound from art punk, folk to synth-pos and field recordings.
No two shows alike.
MRI to FM
The show idea came while getting medical imaging done. Caitlin tuned in CJSR on headphones to tune out the noise of the MRI machine. The station was playing clanking industrial and electronic sounds. She found it a strangely immersive experience, like her head was in a spaceship. It got her imagining a radio show that would duplicate the experience.

Drawing on visual art practice
As a visual artist, Caitlin has a long-time practice of making playlists to listen to while she creates. She submitted a demo show to CJSR based on these playlists. She started Imaginary Landscapes to play some of her favourite songs and to talk about what she thinks about while creating, including:
-
mythological beings
-
hag dreams
-
houses as bodies
-
feelings
What sustains the host & show 10 years on
Caitlin feels it’s a great privilege to be a part of CJSR and its recent history. Being able to continue this show is a lifeline for her which helps her continue to find community through radio and in music.
Exploration continues
The curation and creation of the show will continue to push Caitlin to explore the limits and outer reaches of music and audio.
She hopes to find more music promoting various languages especially within genres like progressive folk and punk as well as various types of electronic and industrial sounds.
