Introducing “Down by the River” – Edmonton’s Newest Music Festival Making Waves this Fall September 13-14, 2025 | Louise McKinney Riverfront Park
A new rhythm is rolling in with the river. Down by the River, Edmonton’s newest music festival, is set to debut September 13 & 14 at the scenic Louise McKinney Riverfront Park. This two-day celebration brings a bold blend of genres, uniting some of Canada’s most exciting & emerging artists with standout international talent, all nestled along the banks of the North Saskatchewan River.
To kick things off in style, Double Dragon is hosting a special launch party on Thursday, May 22nd, featuring acclaimed singer-songwriter Mariel Buckley, performing with her full band and crowd favorites Jackson and the Janks, setting the tone with their rich southern sound. This launch event marks the beginning of what will be a dynamic celebration of music, community, and creativity.
Festival goers can expect unforgettable sets from headliners Ruby Waters, Boy Golden, Cat Clyde, Emily Nenni & the newly formed Chaparelle — artists known for their genre-defying sounds & powerful live performances. The lineup also features some of the most compelling new voices: rising star Damaris Bojor infuses her music with the rich cultural influences of her Mexican heritage, adding an eclectic and vibrant flair to the festival. Bad Magic, an electrifying new psych-rock band out of Los Angeles, brings a bold, high-energy edge to the mix. Leon Majcen complements the energy with soulful melodies and the heart of a seasoned storyteller.
The weekend will also shine a spotlight on the depth of Edmonton’s own music scene, with homegrown talents like The Denim Daddies, Kip Lily, and Aladean Kheroufi sharing the stage with acclaimed national artists Shane Ghostkeeper, Duff Thompson and Steph Green.
“Down by the River is born from our love for music and the way it connects us all,” says Sahib Quraishi, Booking and Creative Director. “This festival is our chance to give back to the city that’s given us so much.”
Festival board member Gavin Delainey adds: “This festival is a tribute to Edmonton’s creative energy and the western roots that run deep in Alberta. It’s about supporting the artists who are pushing boundaries, sharing their work with our community, and making sure everyone feels like they’re part of something truly special.”
Tickets and the full lineup are available via Showpass, with more announcements and community programming on the way. Follow the festival online at @downbytheriveryeg for updates!
